Sometimes, a simple act of kindness from a stranger can lift our spirits and restore our faith in humanity. A recent heartwarming tale shared by a man from Delhi illustrates this beautifully, as he recounted how a stranger went above and beyond to return his mother’s lost phone.
Posting on Reddit, user u/tedlassoo0 explained that while visiting V3S Mall in Nirman Vihar for a late-night movie with his family, his sister accidentally dropped their mother’s phone in the parking lot. They only realized it was missing after settling into their seats. “We were a squad of seven, and my sister just dropped the phone as she got out of the car,” he shared.
After they discovered the phone was missing, the family called the device, and to their surprise, a stranger answered. Initially worried about retrieving it, they were relieved when the man said he would return it, although he was at Crossriver Mall in Karkardooma, where he worked.
“My cousin and I rushed out of the movie theater, even jumping red lights to get there quickly,” he recounted. Upon arrival, they had to navigate the mall’s back entrance to meet the man at the front gate. Despite initial concerns about safety in the area, they found it bustling with people even late at night.
When they finally met the stranger, he turned out to be a friendly jhoolewala (swing vendor). After exchanging the phone, the grateful family offered to buy him food, but he declined, accepting only a bit of cash instead. “I’m super grateful to him. It’s rare to find such honest people these days,” he expressed, also thanking the security guard who let them back into the theater.
The post quickly gained traction on Reddit, inspiring many to share their own experiences of kindness from strangers. As one user commented, “There are good people everywhere… Being well-dressed or educated doesn’t make someone good, just as being poor doesn’t make someone bad.”
