Explosive Devices Found In Kerala Forest Near Kodagu Border

Madikeri: High-end explosive devices have been discovered in the forest area of Kerala, just 15 km from the Kodagu forest region in Karnataka. The Kerala police are actively investigating the case. Forest department personnel spotted the explosives during a patrol in the Thalapuzha Makkimala Kodakkad area of the North Wayanad forest on Tuesday.

Upon inspection, it was revealed that the devices were made from gelatin sticks, fuse wires, and other explosive materials. The explosives have since been diffused, according to police sources. Following the discovery, Thunderbolts, Kerala’s anti-naxal force, conducted a special combing operation with a bomb defusing squad and a dog squad.

This discovery comes about a month and a half after an exchange of gunfire between Kerala police and naxalites, just six km from where the explosives were found. This proximity has raised suspicions that naxals may have planted the explosives.

The site is located 15 km from Karnataka’s forest area and 50 km from the nearest road. The Soma stream, which is currently in spate, makes it unlikely for naxals to infiltrate into Karnataka at this time, according to sources.
