Maddur: Another debt-ridden farmer committed suicide at Madappanakoppalu village, Kestur GP in Maddur taluk on Friday July 10.
The deceased has been identified as Nanjundaiah (60), who took the extreme step after NSL Sugar Mills refused to buy sugarcane which he had grown on his 2.3 acre land in the village.
Due to the refusal, Nanjundaiah failed to repay Rs.30, 000 to Kestur Agricultural Credit Co-operative Bank and Rs. 4 lakh taken from private financiers.
Nanjundaiah is survived by his wife Gowramma, two sons and six daughters.
Legislator D.C. Thammana, TP President Sandarsh, member Nagegowda, Assistant Commissioner Arul Kumar, Tahsildar Manjegowda and others visited the family of the deceased and assured compensation from the Government.
