Maddur: Villagers set a school bus on fire, after a child was killed due to irresponsible driving here in Toppanahalli village on Tuesday.
Khushi(4), an LKG student of R K Institutions run by Vidhana Parishath member B Ramakrishna, was killed after being run over by the school bus while getting off the bus. She is the daughter of Ravi and Maithri.
On Tuesday evening, when Khushi was getting down from the school bus, driver Umesh reportedly did not stop for long due to which she fell and was crushed under the back wheels of the bus killing her on the spot.
Even after seeing this, the driver did not stop the bus and tried to escape. But the locals caught hold of him and thrashed him. Later the villagers broke the windshield and set the school bus into fire.
Hundreds of villagers arrived to the school campus and started protesting against the school. They also blocked all the vehicles inside the campus and stopped them from leaving the campus.
“Due to irresponsible school management this incident has happened. Earlier, one elderly woman was killed after she was hit by a school bus. These school bus drivers are not trained; they drink and drive which is the sole reason for all such accidents”, said one of the locals as he was protesting.
“School management collects huge amounts of donation from us and there is no safety for our kids. So the school should be closed down at the earliest and action must be taken. If not, we would continue to protest”, said the relatives of the deceased. They also gherraoed the education officer of the constituency and urged to take action.
CPI K R Prasad, PSI Mahesh, Venkategowda have provided protection in the area to control the situation. The school management arranged private vehicles to drop the kids safely to their villages.
