Chikkamagaluru: 13.5 kg gold seized from District checkposts

Chikkamagaluru: SP Uma Prashanth said that nine cases have been registered so far across the District in connection with violation of model code of conduct. As many as 22 checkposts have been opened to prevent electoral malpractices. Chikkamagaluru Police personnel were checking at the checkposts 24 hours, she said.

Speaking to mediapersons in the City, she said homestays in the District have been inspected. There are 9,100 licensed guns across the District and 3,500 guns have been deposited in respective Police Station limits. The rest should also deposit the firearms at the earliest in their respective Police Station limits, she said.

The Police Department is keeping an eye on social media in the wake of the model code of conduct and security cases have been registered against 486 people so far. He said there was a delay in registering the case as the items were seized at the checkposts and during the raids had to be brought to the notice of the Court and a case had to be registered, she said.

Nodal officers have been appointed for five Assembly constituencies. Two CCTV cameras have been installed at 22 checkposts. Officials are making surprise visits to the checkposts and checking. 13 kg ganja, and 624 litres of liquor have been seized. The District has so far seized Rs 9.85 Crore in cash, she said.
