The leopard died after being trapped in a roll thrown by miscreants for hunting wild boar on the night of Monday February 6. The leopard fell into a gorge at a distance of a few feet on the Kadur – Mangaluru National Highway when the passengers on the way noticed the cries and informed the Forest Department.

The officials who went in the night tried to save the leopard, which reached the point of death as the rolled neck was strongly stuck. He died while being rescued. In this connection, a case has been registered against the owner of the plantation and other miscreants set the trap.

The Mudigere Forest Department has shifted the body and after postmortem, it has been decided to cremate the leopard’s body through arson.
