Chikkamagaluru: While there is outbreak of skin disease in cattle in the District, dogs are falling prey to the Parvo viral infection in most parts of the District.

The virus is spreading in some areas including Maruthi Nagara in the City and within the limits of Kooduvalli Veterinary Hospital. Dogs that are lovingly kept in homes are dying and efforts are on to save them.

Injections which costs Rs. 700 to Rs. 800 should be given to prevent this virus. It is an expensive injection and cannot be given free of cost by the Government. The injection has to be purchased. The dogs that have been infected with the Parvo virus are falling sick and dying.

Dogs that develop this disease have to be on drips for weeks. If this infection appears in puppies, the chances of survival is bleak. In some cases, the virus appears even if injected. Dogs lose their immunity due to exposure to this virus.
