Chikkamagaluru: The Central Government should declare the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Birsa Munda as a holiday and work for the development of tribals, said State Moola Adivasi Vedike President K. N. Vittal.
He was speaking at the 147th Birsa Munda Jayanti celebrations and tree plantation programme organised by District and Taluk Tribal Farmers’ Association at Basaravalli Girijana Hadi under Khandya Hobli near here. He said that Birsaml Munda had tried to instil self-respect among the tribals, in which he was a man who wanted tribals become the owner of the land and a brave freedom fighter who fought against conversion.
He added, “His ideals should be imbibed in life.”
