Chikkamagaluru: Spokesperson Deepak Doddaiah said the BJP welcomes the move of the present Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai-led BJP Government to bring in reservation for Scheduled Castes which has been pending for nearly 30 years.

Addressing a press conference, he said that injustice would have been done to all without separate reservation for many sub-castes within the Scheduled Castes. Accordingly, there have been hundreds of agitations, protests and satyagrahas in connection with the long-standing demand of the State to classify the sub-castes within the Scheduled Castes on the basis of population and give them a reservation, he said.

“Realising this, the Dharam Singh-led Government had set up a commission headed by Justice A. J. Sadashiva. The Commission had conducted an in-depth study and submitted its report to the Government of D. V. Sadananda Gowda. For a number of reasons, the report was not implemented,” he noted. Realising the implications of this, the Basavaraj Bommai-Led Government met Law Minister J. C. Madhuswamy and a committee was formed under his Chairmanship.

He said that the committee had submitted a report classifying the reservation according to the population and accordingly the Chief Minister has provided social justice. He said that it is commendable that the reservation rate for Vokkaliga community under 2C category and reservation for 2D category of Veerashaiva Lingayat communities have been increased.
