Chikkamagaluru: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President D. K. Shivakumar on Friday August 19 warned BJP to control its workers after “egg attack” on Congress Party leader Siddaramaiah in Kodagu District. “Siddaramaiah is not just a Congress leader. He holds the constitutional post of Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly. If Congress workers also protest at events that the Chief Minister and ministers attend, the situation will be different,” said Shivakumar.

Speaking further he said, “Siddaramaiah has a duty as an opposition leader to draw attention to the failures of the government. In a system of democracy, one can protest or criticise statements made by anyone.”

“Siddaramaiah had travelled to Kodagu to assess the damage caused by the floods and to draw attention to the government’s failures in providing aid. Some BJP members, however, confronted Siddaramaiah with black flags and eggs. This isn’t the right procedure way to express disapproval,” he added.

“Congress has participated in several struggles, including the freedom struggle. What if we urge our workers to protest at events where the CM and ministers are expected to speak against corruption? What will happen to the state of law and order? he questioned.
