Chikkamagaluru: A six-year-old studying Standard I was swept away by rivulet water in Hosapete Village of District on the evening of Monday July 4.
The deceased has been identified as Supritha (6) studying in Hosapete government Primary School. It is said that the incident occured when Supritha and her brother were washing their feet in rivulet.
Soon after the incident was reported, the villagers searched to rescue the girl but could not succeed. Fire and Emergency Services Personnel, villagers and police are camping in the village and searching for the body. Fire personnel have brought a boat for search operations but boats could not be pressed into service owing to rocks in rivulet.
The District has been receiving medium to heavy rainfall since last thee days. The water level in rivers, lakes, and rivulets rose up. The District Administration has declared a holiday for schools in Kalasa, Sringeri and Mudigere Taluks for two days. Normal life has been affected by the heavy downpour.
