Hassan: In a bizarre incident, farmers in Santepete Market in the City had left behind young male calves as they did not want rear the same. Social worker Praveen Gowda noticed that the cute calves were eating plastic and mud for food and took them to the City Council premises in an autorickshaw and rescued them.

As the calves were brought to the premises in an autorickshaw while the General Body Meeting was going on, there was a brief exchange of words between the officials, Municipal Representatives and Praveen Gowda over the issue of protecting the calves. Later, responding to his request, Municipal Corporation President R. Mohan and Officials released them to Arasikere Gaushala, thus rescuing them.

Speaking on the occasion, Praveen Gowda said, “Recently, farmers have been bringing calves to the market and leaving them behind. Cows are not protected. Similarly, the District Administration should take steps to protect the stray cattle which are on the rise across Hassan City and one gaushala should be opened in the Taluk to protect the these cows,” he said.
