Hassan: As the State Assembly elections are approaching, the tussle between political parties in Hassan District is on the rise. An argument broke out between Congress and JD (S) workers over the distribution of prasadam at the temple.
As part of the Jatra Mahotsava celebrations of Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy Temple at Holenarasipura in the District, activists came forward to distribute prasadam on behalf of MLA H. D. Revanna, who is also a Former Minister. At this point, the Congressmen started insisting that they be allowed to distribute prasadam and sat on a dharna. A large number of JD (S) workers gathered after learning about this.
When JD (S) workers stopped to distribute prasadam, Congress workers arrived with utensils and shamiyanas, asking them to allow them to distribute prasadam. Angry over the Police action, hundreds of Congress workers staged a sit-in in front of the Temple gate. During this time, the Police beat up the protesters and chased them away.
JD (S) workers gathered in large numbers when they came to know about the dharna by Congress workers. Later, an argument broke out between the workers of the two parties and a scuffle broke out between them.
This created an atmosphere of tension in the premises of the Temple. During this time, the Police tried their best to control the scuffle.
