Hassan: Manjula (46), a resident of Halekote Village, who died and due to lack of space to cremate in the graveyard in Halekote Village for the past several years due to encroachment of the burial ground, keeping the deadbody, the villagers protested raising slogans against the authorities in front of the cremation ground.

Speaking on the occasion, Communist Party of India, State Secretary B. Rudrayya said that in 1993, 3.10 acres of land was allotted for the burial ground in Survey No. 52 of Halekote Village. The influential people have encroached and now save only 20 guntas of land. For the past six months, protests have been held several times in front of the Taluk Office demanding that the graveyard land be removed from encroachment. It is still not possible to get rid of the graveyard land due to the false assurances of the authorities, he said

“Now there is no place to cremate anyone who has died in the village, he said and therefore, urged the Deputy Commissioner to intervene in the matter and remove the encroachments sanctioned for the cremation ground and facilitate the cremation.

Revenue Inspector Krishna Kumar reached the spot and assured that the issue would be resolved within a week. Then the villagers said that they will wait only for a week. They warned that if the issue is not resolved, they will protest in front of the Taluk Office if anyone dies in the village.
