Hassan: As the Karnataka Assembly elections are approaching, the number of defections is on the rise.
In the latest development, after MLA K. M. Shivalingegowda was announced as the Congress candidate, difference of opinion erupted in the Arasikere Congress. Senior Congress leader G. B. Shashidhar has resigned from the party.
Shashidhar was the defeated Congress candidate in the last Assembly elections. He lost to Shivalingegowda by a margin of 50,000 votes. He was expecting a Congress ticket this time too and was shocked by the recent development.
At the recent conference, Former Chief Minister and leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah had announced K. M. Shivalinge Gowda as the Congress candidate. Shashidhar has now decided to resign from the Congress.
Addressing a press conference here, he said, “We have been organising the party for the last five years. After Dinesh Gundu Rao, D. K. Shivakumar became Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committe President. We formed the Congress party in Arysikere along with Block Congress president as per his instructions. He further said, “I am saddened by the recent developments in the Congress. We want a winning candidate. Shivalingegowda is declared as the candidate. This is not right, he said.
We had requested the High Command to give a ticket to an ordinary worker. Therefore, I have resigned from the Congress party, he said.
However, he did not give information on which party he would join next.
