Shivamogga: Speaking in a press meet, the SDPI appealed to the public to maintain peace in the city and to initiate legal action against the people who instigated the communal riots in the city of Shivamogga on Dec 3.

SDPI district president Salim Khan, who held a news conference on the issue, said that ministers and MPs would have visited the hospital if the attack was on a Bajrang Dal activist. He also questioned why there was no visit by other ethnic groups and accused them of being part of a broken system.

He added that the Bajrang Dal leaders are directly responsible for the unfortunate incident following an attack on a man named Nagesh in Shimoga city. The group also gathered in Ramnashetty Park and made provocative speeches that led to the incident, he said.

It is irresponsible on the part of the MPs to not pay a visit to the 18 victims admitted in McGANN hospital and also, no ethnic group has turned up to console the victims.

Reactionary remarks by the Minister of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj of Karnataka, KS Eshwarappa is an attempt to create anxiety in the public. BJP is trying to create communal conflict with the foresight of the upcoming Gram Panchayat Elections.

SDPI is launching a campaign against marijuana and communal violence, he said in the statement.
