Shivamogga: Shivamogga Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedikegala Okkoota protested here in front of City Municipal Corporation condemning the unscientific enhancement of property tax in the State.

The protestors demanded that the Government should understand the current economical crisis and should provide 50% concession in the property tax.

“Instead, our State and the Municipal Corporation have notified on enhancing the certain percentage of property tax by the end of 2020 -21, whereas the state governments of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Gujarat have ordered for 50% reduction in the property tax,” they alleged.

“SR rate has an adverse effect on property tax and SR rate itself is unscientific. The State Government has to stop SR Rate-based taxation policy, ” protestors further demanded.

“In property tax calculation, depreciation of the buildings is taken into consideration, hence it is taxable. The consideration of the cost of depreciation on private buildings must be continued. The Government has to announce a 50% discount on old taxes in 2021-22,” they urged.
