Shivamogga: In a bizzare ritual, shockingly as many as eight goats were sacrificed during a yaga in Shivamogga, recently.
The animal sacrifice was held as part of an ancient vedic ritual. According to reports, after the puja, the goats with their mouths tied were sacrificed near the fire altar. Later the parts of the animal were chopped off and offered into the sacred fire.
The chief priest who took part in the yaga ate the meat, after consuming ‘Soma Rasa.’ As many as 17 priests from different parts of the country, including Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh took part in the ritual.
After the ritual, the organisers allegedly served ‘meat prasadam’ to the devotees.
The yaga was conducted from April 22 to 27.
The yaga called as ‘Soma yaga’ was allegedly performed by some people belonging to Sankethi Brahmin community in Mattur village in Shivamogga for public welfare.
