Shivamogga: ‘Airport inauguration by the end of November’

Shivamogga: The runway, terminal building, air traffic control unit and other works of airport at Sogane near Shivamogga are in full swing. All these works will be completed by the end of November and is all set to be inaugurated, said MP B. Y. Raghavendra.

He visited Sogane Airport on Sunday September 25 along with national and state-level technicians, officials, including Ministry of Civil Aviation Additional Secretary Ushapady, Gaurav Gupta, and District In-charge Secretary Selvakumar.

While speaking to mediapersons he said, “It is essential that any state, district, institution or system has the basic amenities to make the desired progress. Former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa’s perseverance, determination and cooperation of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai are also memorable for the implementation of this long-cherished dream project, he added.

“There is a need to pay attention to the systematic maintenance, traffic connectivity and monitoring functions of the airport. Urging Gaurav Gupta to convene a meeting of high-level officials to take a decision on the maintenance of the station and facilitate further action, he said that the State Government would request him to get Prime Minister’s time for the inauguration of the airport.

Apart from Shivamogga-Bengaluru, airlines have also been requested to take steps to connect and operate to several major cities in the neighbouring states. A high-level team of officials from the State will soon visit the Shirdi airports in the neighbouring State of Maharashtra to take stock of the arrangements and maintenance there. He said that the Central Government has already released Rs. 65 Crore under Gatishakti scheme and in the coming days, refrigeration units, godowns, and micro-enterprise units will be set up in the District to facilitate the transportation of goods.

Brigadier Purvimath, Rajeev Kumar Rai, Hepsibarani Korlapati, Chief Minister’s Joint Secretary H. R. Rajappa, RITES Engineer Ravi, Deputy Commissioner R. Selvamani, Superintendent of Police B.M. Laxmi Prasad, PWD Engineers Kantharaj, Sampath Kumar and other officials and technicians and contractors of the airline were present.

In a month’s time, a ‘multi-disciplinary team’ from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Delhi is arriving for the last phase of the airport being constructed at Sogane in Shivamogga and on Saturday September 24 Ministry of Civil Aviation Additional Secretary Usha Padialong with MP B. Y. Raghavendra inspected the work on the airport and participated in a virtual meeting with various airline agencies along with the officials.

Gaurav Gupta, an IAS, ACS and IDD officer. DGCA officer Rajesh, BCAS officer Rai, Star Air’s Vikram Chauhan, PWD General Secretary Selva Kumar, IDD Hepsiba Rani, RITES AGM Raju, Chief Engineer Kantharaj, Executive Engineer Sampath, AEE Kiran and others were present.
