Shivamogga: In connection to the stabbing of 20-year-old cloth store worker Prem Singh, police have invoked the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against the accused. The incident happened following unrest over a V. D. Savarkar portrait in the District on Independence Day.

The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) office and the accused’s houses were raided by the police on Thursday, informed Superintendent of Police B. M. Laxmi Prasad on Friday August 27. “We searched six places after obtaining a search warrant from the court. The four accused’s houses as well as the house of one of their relatives were searched. Since we found that the accused have connections to the outfit, we also searched the SDPI office,” he added.

Prasad claimed that some “important things” required for the case had been seized by the police. Zabiulla, the main suspect, who was shot in the leg and is receiving treatment at McGann Hospital, will be taken into custody. Four people have already been arrested, he said. The police have arrested Zabiulla alias Charbi (29), Tanveer (22), Nadeem (25), and Abdul Rehman (25).
