Shivamogga: The villagers staged a massive protest on Thursday March 2 against the demolition of Butaraya’s Temple on the banks of Channamumbapura Lake on Wednesday March 1 and throwing the deity’s stone into the lake.

The MLA and Holehonnur Ramesh have encroached more than two acres of land in the 10-acre lake. Akshara School Building has been constructed by encroaching on the lake. They supposedly have built a building half an acre from the lake site and violated the rules. It has been demanded that legal action be taken against them.

Butaraya’s Temple on the banks of Channamumbapura lake has been there since time immemorial and since it is inside the college building, the temple was suddenly opened and the deity’s stone was thrown into the lake. The villagers alleged that the act was committed by the MLA. Legal action should be taken against those who destroyed the temple. They demanded that legal action be taken against those who did not protect the temple.

Even on Thursday March 2, the villagers of Channamumbapura tried to block the Sawalanga Road. A request was made to the Tahasildar to construct a temple of Butharaya on the banks of the lake itself and to remove encroachments from the lake.
