Shivamogga: Superintendent of Police Mithun Kumar announced the installation of CCTV cameras in the city as part of the Smart City project to monitor adherence to traffic regulations. Starting from August 28, the police department will implement an automated fine system for violations.
During a press briefing, He explained that cameras placed near the city’s 14 major signal circles will track vehicles involved in violations such as riding without helmets, using half helmets, reckless driving, triple riding on two-wheelers, and failing to fasten seat belts in cars. If the SMS notification is not received by the offender, an official notice will be dispatched to their residence, he stated.
A total of 38 cameras have been integrated into the Smart City project, leading to a streamlined process of imposing fines for traffic violations by the police. The cameras will effectively detect infractions such as speeding, disregarding red lights, and one-way traffic violations within the city’s traffic circles.
In some signal circles, there is free left, but not all signal circles have a signal-free left. Auto meters are mandatory, and if anyone does not have a meter, they should report to the traffic police, who will take appropriate action. Decisions regarding establishing auto stands will be made soon, he said.
The press conference was attended by Additional Protection Officer Anil Kumar Bhumareddy, Deputy Superintendent of Police Suresh, Traffic Police Inspector Santosh Kumar, and representatives from the Smart City project.
