Shimoga: Yesterday, it was discovered that students from Subbaiah Medical College were involved in a marijuana case. Consequently, the rural police have arrested these students for cultivating marijuana at their homes and they have been remanded to judicial custody.
PI Abhay Prakash Somanal and SP Mithun Kumar stated that Abdul Qayyum and Arpita, students of the medical college, were arrested two days ago in connection with the ganja case. It was revealed that the 450 grams of marijuana has been already sold.

Yesterday, three additional arrests were made, namely Vighnaraj, Vinod, and Pandu Dore. These individuals, aged 27-28, were students of the medical college who grew marijuana plants at home, during the raid, it was discovered that they artificially cultivated 150 grams of dry marijuana, they rented a house and set up an artificial tent in the bedroom to grow the plants.

Furthermore, they purchased chemical fertilizers online to aid in the cultivation. These three individuals are in their final year of medical school, as per the information provided, it is suspected that the marijuana was sold both locally and in Tamil Nadu. The plants were likely grown for a duration of four to five months. An investigation into this matter has been initiated, the three students do not have any prior criminal records.

The cultivation took place in a tent measuring 5×10 feet and of black color, there is evidence regarding the customers, but there is no information about the sale and cultivation of ganja within the college premises. The situation in the college hostel is under control, and regular visits are being conducted, the department is also actively working on raising awareness as this issue negatively affects students both physically and mentally.

“Relatives and friends should be vigilant regarding those pursuing engineering and medical degrees. If there are any suspicions, they need to be reported. This is a matter of grave concern. It should be noted that two of the arrested students are from Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Similar cases have also been discovered in Purale,” said the authorities during the press conference, Additional SP Anil Kumar Bhumareddy, DYSP Ramesh, Shimoga Rural Police Station PI Abhay Prakash, and others were present.
