In a concerning case of impersonation, an individual has been arrested for establishing multiple fake social media accounts under the name of PSI Anil Kumbhar from the Jamkhandi City Police Station. The accused, identified as Vijaykumar from Athani taluk, created five fake Facebook accounts and one Instagram account using images of the PSI in uniform and other personal photos.
The fraudulent accounts were reportedly used to send messages to political leaders and women, attempting to defraud them by demanding money. Upon discovering the impersonation, PSI Anil Kumbhar promptly filed a complaint with the Bagalkot CEN Cyber Police Station, triggering an investigation.
As the investigation progressed, police were able to trace Vijaykumar’s location, leading to his arrest in Mumbai. He has since been remanded to judicial custody as the authorities continue to gather evidence related to the case.
This incident highlights the growing issue of online impersonation and fraud, especially involving public figures. The police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
PSI Anil Kumbhar expressed relief over the swift action taken by the police and emphasized the importance of addressing such fraudulent activities to maintain public trust in law enforcement.
