Mandya: In the wake of violent clashes that erupted during a Ganesh idol procession in Nagamangala, Karnataka, significant administrative action has been taken. A police inspector has been suspended for failing in his duties, and the head of the state’s intelligence has been reassigned.

The disturbances occurred on Wednesday night in Mandya district, where confrontations broke out between two groups as the procession neared a mosque. Reports indicate that the violence began with stone-throwing from the vicinity of the mosque, escalating into property damage, including vandalized shops and burned vehicles.

To curb the unrest, local authorities have implemented prohibitory orders, banning gatherings of more than four people until Saturday. Although the situation is currently calm, additional police personnel remain stationed as a precaution. The number of arrests related to the incident has climbed to 55, with 52 individuals already placed in 14-day judicial custody.

The violence has drawn criticism from political leaders, including Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who condemned the disorder and questioned the effectiveness of the state government’s response. The clashes reportedly started when the procession from Badarikoppalu village came into conflict near a mosque, resulting in injuries to two police officers and several civilians. Law enforcement used minimal force to disperse the crowd and restore order.
