Mangaluru: Police from Kankanady Town police station arrested Manja alias Mysore Manja, a resident of Karubara Palya in Shivamogga, on August 11 in connection with a case involving the alleged illegal possession of a deadly weapon.

The accused had reportedly been absconding after failing to appear before the court and subsequently changing his address. Acting on information about his whereabouts, police traced and arrested him near KEB Colony in Shivamogga city.

Accused arrested after remaining absconding

According to police, the case was registered at Kankanady Town police station in connection with the alleged illegal possession of a deadly weapon.

The accused had failed to appear before the court and later changed his residential address, making it difficult for the authorities to trace him. He remained unavailable to the police until investigators received information about his presence in Shivamogga.

Based on the information, a police team tracked him down near KEB Colony and took him into custody on August 11.

Several cases registered in Shivamogga

Police said Manja alias Mysore Manja has been named in several serious criminal cases registered at different police stations across Shivamogga district.

His alleged involvement in multiple cases was also taken into consideration while tracing him after he reportedly went absconding.

The arrest is part of efforts by the police to locate accused persons who fail to appear before courts or attempt to evade legal proceedings by changing their addresses.

Investigation continues

Following the arrest, police are expected to continue their investigation into the weapon possession case and verify details concerning the other cases reportedly registered against the accused.

Authorities are also likely to examine the circumstances surrounding his alleged possession of the weapon and his subsequent failure to appear before the court.

The arrest highlights the coordination required between police units across districts when accused persons move away from the jurisdiction where a case has been registered.

The Kankanady Town police are continuing further legal proceedings in connection with the case.
