Mangaluru: Police have arrested an accused who had been absconding after failing to appear before the court in connection with a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The arrested individual has been identified as Mohammed Rafiq, a resident of Shafi Manzil in Thekkil, Kasargod district of Kerala.

Accused failed to appear before court

According to police, a case had been registered against Mohammed Rafiq at the E&N Crime police station under Crime No. 03/2021 for offences punishable under Sections 8(C) and 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act.

During the course of the legal proceedings, the accused allegedly failed to appear before the court despite being required to do so and remained absconding for an extended period.

Following his non-appearance, the court issued a warrant against him.

Police trace and arrest accused

Acting on the court warrant, the station house officer and personnel of the E&N Crime police station launched efforts to trace the accused.

The police team successfully located and apprehended Mohammed Rafiq on June 24.

Officials said the accused was taken into custody and necessary legal procedures were initiated following his arrest.

Accused to be produced before court

Police stated that Mohammed Rafiq is being produced before the court in connection with the pending case.

Further proceedings in the matter will be carried out in accordance with the directions of the court and the provisions of the NDPS Act.

The arrest is part of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to trace and apprehend accused persons who evade legal proceedings and remain absconding in criminal cases.
