Mohammed Shafi, the prime suspect in a 12-year-old gold chain snatching case, has been apprehended by the police and brought before the court. The incident in question occurred in 2012 in Golithottu, falling under the jurisdiction of the Uppinangady police station.
Shafi, a resident of the eighth block of Krishnapura in Suratkal Chokkabettu village, was involved in the theft when he arrived on a bike and forcibly snatched a gold chain from a woman walking on the street. Following his arrest at the time, Shafi was released on bail. However, he failed to appear for subsequent court hearings, leading to his continued evasion of justice.
The breakthrough in the case came when Uppinangady Circle Inspector Ravi B.S. and his team tracked Shafi to Amparu in the Udupi district on Thursday. The investigation revealed that Shafi is also implicated in several other criminal cases across various police stations, including Beltangady, Bantwal, and Vittal.
The successful arrest of Shafi after over a decade marks a significant development in this long-standing case, and his court appearances will be closely monitored to ensure that justice is served.
