Venur: Venur police have arrested an auto driver and remanded him to judicial custody for allegedly harassing and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old schoolgirl after threatening her with dire consequences for several months.

The accused has been identified as Jamaluddin, a resident of Venur. According to police, he had been transporting the minor to school in his auto for the past few months.

Minor allegedly threatened into silence

Police stated that Jamaluddin allegedly behaved inappropriately towards the girl during the daily journeys. When she resisted his advances, he allegedly threatened her with serious consequences, causing her to remain silent about the alleged harassment.

The situation reportedly escalated on the evening of August 13, when the accused allegedly entered the girl’s house while she was alone and sexually assaulted her after intimidating her.

Complaint filed at Venur police station

The minor subsequently lodged a complaint at Venur police station on August 15.

Acting on the complaint, police registered a case under Crime No. 56/2026. The accused has been booked under Sections 75(2), 64(1), 65(1) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Sections 4(2), 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

Accused remanded to judicial custody

Venur police arrested Jamaluddin on August 15 and produced him before the court. The court subsequently remanded him to judicial custody.

Police are continuing their investigation into the allegations.
