Bantwal: The redevelopment of Bantwal railway station under the Centre’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) has been completed at an estimated cost of Rs 26.18 crore, transforming the station into a modern passenger facility with upgraded infrastructure and improved commuter amenities. The revamped station is expected to be virtually dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 17.
Prime Minister Modi had virtually laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment project in 2024. Bantwal railway station is among four stations in the South Western Railway zone that have undergone comprehensive modernisation under the second phase of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
Modernisation completed under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme
The redevelopment project has significantly upgraded the station’s infrastructure with a focus on passenger comfort, safety and accessibility.
Executed at a cost of Rs 26.18 crore, the project has transformed Bantwal railway station into a modern transit hub equipped with improved facilities for daily commuters and long-distance travellers.
Officials said the redevelopment is part of the Centre’s efforts to modernise railway stations across the country while enhancing the overall passenger experience.
Upgraded passenger amenities
As part of the redevelopment, the station’s waiting halls and ticket booking counters have been modernised with additional space and improved seating arrangements.
The circulating area has also been upgraded to facilitate smoother movement of passengers and vehicles. Separate vehicle drop-off and pick-up zones have been created to reduce congestion and improve traffic management around the station premises.
Passengers will also benefit from renovated station interiors, modern furniture and enhanced public spaces designed to provide greater comfort.
Enhanced infrastructure and safety features
The makeover includes full-length platform shelters, improved platform surfaces and newly constructed entrance and exit arches that give the station a contemporary appearance.
The redevelopment has also introduced extensive landscaping and façade improvements, enhancing the station’s aesthetic appeal.
To improve passenger convenience, the station has been equipped with high-quality LED lighting, illuminated platform name boards, modern signages, coach and train indication boards, a public address (PA) system and digital clocks.
These upgrades are expected to improve passenger information systems while ensuring a safer and more efficient travel experience.
Part of nationwide station redevelopment
Bantwal railway station is one of 75 railway stations across the country redeveloped under the second phase of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
Within the South Western Railway zone, four stations have undergone comprehensive modernisation as part of the programme.
According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to virtually inaugurate all 75 redeveloped stations on July 17, marking another milestone in the nationwide railway infrastructure upgrade initiative.
