Mangaluru: BJP Dakshina Kannada district president Satish Kumpala has demanded a comprehensive investigation into an alleged sting operation linked to the Puttur Assembly constituency, questioning whether the incident was used to secure a party ticket during the 2023 elections.
Addressing a press conference in Mangaluru, Kumpala said Puttur’s name had surfaced in connection with the alleged sting case and claimed that the controversy had brought disrepute to Dakshina Kannada district. He called for an impartial investigation to establish the facts and identify those involved.
Kumpala’s remarks followed statements by Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah, who reportedly alleged that Congress leaders were involved in the sting operation to secure a ticket for the Puttur Assembly constituency.
BJP questions alleged use of sting operation in ticket selection
Kumpala questioned whether the alleged sting operation had any connection with the selection of the Congress candidate for the Puttur constituency in the 2023 Assembly elections.
He pointed out that the incident in question reportedly dated back to 2011 but alleged that it may have been used as leverage during the 2023 election cycle.
He sought clarity on who may have benefited from the alleged operation and whether the incident had influenced the distribution of party tickets.
The BJP district president also raised questions about the identities of those who allegedly organised the sting operation and those who may have been targeted. He said these issues needed to be examined as part of a comprehensive investigation.
However, the allegations and questions raised at the press conference do not, by themselves, establish that the sting operation influenced the selection of a candidate.
Kumpala calls for investigation into claims
Referring to Yathindra Siddaramaiah’s reported statement that the sting operation was orchestrated to tarnish his father’s reputation, Kumpala said the matter required a detailed inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He argued that the competing claims and suspicions surrounding the case should be examined by investigators rather than left unresolved in the public domain.
Kumpala also expressed suspicion that similar operations might have taken place elsewhere and called for the investigation to establish whether the Puttur-related allegations were part of a wider pattern.
He reiterated that the truth should be made public and that those responsible, if any, should be identified through a proper investigation.
Puttur’s name brings district politics into focus
The controversy has drawn attention to Puttur, an important political constituency in Dakshina Kannada district. The alleged connection between the sting operation and the 2023 Assembly ticket selection has become a subject of political debate following the statements attributed to the Congress leadership.
Kumpala said the association of Puttur with the controversy had affected the district’s reputation and stressed the need to clarify the facts.
He demanded that the authorities investigate the alleged operation, determine who was involved and establish whether it had any role in the political developments surrounding the constituency.
The allegations remain claims made in the political arena, and the information provided does not establish whether an official investigation has been initiated or whether the alleged link to ticket selection has been substantiated.
Kumpala called for the investigation to be completed promptly, saying the public deserved clarity on the matter.
