On Tuesday, police arrested a BJP worker named Abhay in connection with the controversial ‘love jihad’ case in Karkala, Udupi district. Abhay is the third person arrested in this case, which involves the alleged abduction and rape of a 21-year-old woman by her Instagram friend, Altaf. Abhay reportedly aided Altaf in evading capture after the crime and has been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for providing drugs to Altaf.

Abhay, who had been actively involved in anti-drug campaigns and was associated with Hindu organizations, has sparked significant debate on social media. The case took a political turn when Hindu groups claimed the crime was a case of ‘love jihad,’ though police have warned against spreading such rumors.

The victim, who had been friends with Altaf on Instagram for three months, was allegedly kidnapped, drugged, and raped. The police continue to investigate the incident, with more details yet to emerge.
