In a spirited lead-up to its landmark 500th blood donation camp on June 14, Blood Donors Mangaluru, in collaboration with Zamaan Boys Kalladka, recently held a special initiative by conducting simultaneous blood donation camps across major hospitals in Dakshina Kannada.

Around 150 donors participated at AJ Hospital, KMC, Wenlock District Hospital, and Fr Muller Hospital, making the event a significant prelude to the upcoming milestone.

A car rally was also organised to promote awareness about the urgent need for blood donation. The rally kicked off from Kalladka, traversing Mangaluru’s main roads and pausing at various hospitals where groups of youth, part of the rally convoy, stepped forward to donate blood—setting a motivating example for the community.

Founder Siddiq Manjeshwar noted that blood shortages in April and May are typical, but this year’s decline was alarming. “We noticed a serious dip, likely due to rising temperatures and personal commitments,” he said. “So, we intensified awareness efforts, especially among youth, since surgeries and medical demands peak during these months.”

Having completed 497 blood donation camps both in India and internationally, the organisation now looks ahead to the grand 500th event, aiming for at least 500 donors to participate. “We hope to make it a historic celebration of community service and volunteer spirit,” Siddiq added.
