Coast Guard Conducts Comprehensive Pollution Response Exercise In Mangaluru

The No. 3 Coast Guard district headquarters organized a pollution response seminar, workshop, tabletop exercise, and mock drill on Tuesday and Wednesday, in collaboration with NMPA, MRPL, NITK Surathkal, CMFRI, Mangalore SEZ, and other oil handling agencies.

The event aimed to discuss oil spill cleanup techniques and review contingency planning, strategies, and policies, along with implementing relevant legislation. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Praveen Kumar Mishra, commander of the Indian Coast Guard district headquarters, inaugurated the seminar.

In his keynote address, the commander emphasized the importance of preparedness for unforeseen incidents and stressed that efficient countermeasures can be achieved through sustained training and persistent efforts. Representatives from MRPL, NMPA, HPCL, IOCL, NITK Surathkal, Mangalore SEZ, CMFRI, INCOIS, and Karwar port attended the seminar.

A practical demonstration of oil spill response equipment was conducted on board MV Aqua Marine, with Indian Coast Guard ships Rajdoot and C-448 participating in the mock drill to facilitate practical knowledge sharing among stakeholders.
