Customer Stages Sit In Protest At Kallugundi Bank Over Cibil Score Issue

K.P. Johnny, who had previously stood as a guarantor for an education loan of a girl at the branch in 2016, found himself unable to obtain new facilities from the bank. Despite the completion of the student’s education and subsequent repayment of the loan by her family, after much haggling, through a one-time settlement at a reduced rate, Johnny’s CIBIL score took a hit, rendering him ineligible for further assistance from the bank.

Unaware of the developments following his role as a guarantor, Johnny was taken aback when informed by the bank staff that his CIBIL score had been adversely affected. His attempts to seek clarification from the bank, including requesting a formal letter and sending appeals via registered post, went unanswered for over a month.

Recently, when K.P. Johnny went to the bank on some work, the bank staff said that he is not eligible for any facility in the bank as his CIBIL score is down due to a one-time settlement of Rs 60,000 education loan in which he was the guarantor. Johnny asked the bank staff as to why they had not informed him when his CIBIL score was marked down.

Frustrated by the lack of response, Johnny staged a sit-in protest inside the bank premises on Saturday. Bank officials concerned promptly filed a complaint with the Kallugundi police, citing disruption of their business operations. Upon arrival, the police successfully mediated the situation, convincing Johnny to end his protest.
