Dakshina Kannada takes action against drug addiction among students

In response to the growing issue of drug addiction among students in Dakshina Kannada, the district administration has outlined a comprehensive strategy to combat drug trafficking. Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP emphasized the need for immediate action and has planned a series of initiatives to address the issue. These include the appointment of nodal officers and counsellors at educational institutions, the formation of WhatsApp groups for communication, enhanced monitoring of parcel deliveries, surveillance of forest areas to prevent marijuana cultivation, and routine inspections of schools and colleges.

The DC stressed the importance of awareness programs in educational institutions to curb the drug network, advising that cases of addiction should be reported to the police for further investigation. He also recommended that the RTO department raise awareness among bus drivers and conductors about drugs and display related posters with the helpline number 1933 in buses.

Given the prevalence of synthetic drugs in the district, the DC urged authorities to identify the sources of these substances and collaborate across departments, including police and excise, to address the issue effectively. Regular meetings and reports will be part of the ongoing effort to safeguard the future of students and the community.
