Puttur: In a significant development in the case of a young woman allegedly deceived under the pretext of marriage and later giving birth to a child, DNA samples of the victim, her child, and the accused were collected at the Puttur court on Tuesday.

The accused, Srikrishna J Rao, currently lodged in Mangaluru jail, was brought to court in the afternoon. The victim, her infant son, and her mother were also present. In the judge’s presence, doctors from the taluk government hospital collected the blood samples, a step considered crucial for the ongoing investigation.

The samples have been dispatched to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Bengaluru for DNA analysis. Due to earlier concerns about possible tampering with reports, the samples were securely transported by women police personnel via bus, accompanied by the victim’s mother.

As per procedure, the police must file a charge sheet within 60 days of arrest. While the initial stage of the charge sheet has already been submitted and is awaiting court numbering, officials confirmed that more details may be added as the investigation advances.

According to the complaint, Srikrishna allegedly exploited his classmate by convincing her of marriage. However, after she became pregnant, he reportedly refused to marry her. The victim delivered a baby boy on June 27. Following her complaint, the accused was arrested and, with his bail plea rejected, continues to remain in judicial custody.
