Vitla: Panic gripped residents after a powerful explosion occurred at a firecracker manufacturing unit at Nooji near Kambalabettu, close to Vitla. The blast sent thick smoke billowing into the sky, alarming people in surrounding areas.

According to sources, Gaffoor, a resident of Kambalabettu, had prepared and stored firecrackers for a temple festival. The explosion reportedly occurred in the afternoon, likely triggered by intense heat. Fortunately, no workers or residents were present at the site at the time, and no casualties were reported.

History of similar incidents

The area has witnessed similar accidents in the past. Last year, a major explosion occurred at Kore in Madattadka area of Moodnuru village near Vitla, causing damage to nearby houses, trees, and plants. Around 2017, two workers were killed when firecrackers exploded near Gaffoor’s house at Nooji. A case had been registered in that connection, but it remains unresolved.

Official inspection and investigation

Revenue Inspector Ravi, Vitla Police Inspector Prakash Devadiga, Vitla PSI Ramakrishna, and other officials visited the site to inspect the damage and investigate the incident. Preliminary reports revealed that no official permission had been obtained for manufacturing firecrackers at the location, raising concerns about safety and legal compliance.

Safety concerns and preventive measures

Experts and local authorities have reiterated the need for strict adherence to safety regulations while handling explosives. Unauthorized manufacturing of firecrackers not only poses risks to workers but also endangers nearby residents. The authorities are expected to intensify inspections and ensure compliance to prevent such incidents in the future.

Conclusion

While the latest explosion caused no injuries, it serves as a stark reminder of the hazards associated with firecracker manufacturing. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and report any unauthorized storage of explosive materials to authorities.
