Mangaluru: Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Deralakatte, celebrated World Homoeopathy Day 2026 on April 25, commemorating the 271st birth anniversary of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of Homoeopathy.

The event brought together students, faculty, alumni, and dignitaries to honour the legacy of Homoeopathy and highlight its relevance in modern healthcare.

Inaugural ceremony and dignitaries

The inaugural programme commenced at 9:30 a.m. in the college auditorium. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. H. R. Thimmaiah, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, Dakshina Kannada.

The Guests of Honour included distinguished alumni Dr. Gretta Lobo (1985 UG batch) and Dr. Joy K. Banerjee (2001 UG batch).

The programme began with the garlanding of the busts of Rev. Fr. Augustus Muller and Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, followed by a prayer song. Dr. Anusha G. Sanil, Convener, escorted the dignitaries to the dais.

Emphasis on relevance of Homoeopathy

Dr. E. S. J. Prabhu Kiran, Principal, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the global relevance and importance of Homoeopathy. The dignitaries formally inaugurated the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

Rev. Fr. Donald Nilesh Crasta, Administrator, delivered the Administrator’s message, encouraging students to actively engage in learning and promoting Homoeopathy while upholding its healing mission.

Awards and student achievements

As part of the celebrations, prizes were distributed to winners of various competitions conducted in connection with World Homoeopathy Day.

Awards were also presented for the “Colours of Materia Medica” competition organised by the Department of Materia Medica and the model-making competition conducted by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The prestigious “Dr. Mukesh Batra’s Homoeopathy Scholarship” awards were presented by Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, recognising meritorious students:

  • Gold Scholarship: Ms. Srikanya K. H.
  • Silver Scholarship: Mr. Akhil Monteiro
  • Bronze Scholarship: Ms. C. S. Joelene

Inspiring address by chief guest

In his address, Dr. H. R. Thimmaiah appreciated the enthusiasm and achievements of students. He emphasised that every medical system has its own strengths and encouraged practitioners to remain dedicated to their chosen field for better patient care.

Presidential address and message

In his presidential address, Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo highlighted the growing importance of Homoeopathy and urged students to uphold its principles.

He encouraged them to “profess, practice and proclaim” the system with pride and dedication, setting an example through ethical and committed practice.

Interactive sessions and conclusion

Mementos were presented to the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour as a token of appreciation. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Anusha G. Sanil, followed by the institution anthem.

Post the formal session, interactive sessions with the alumni provided students valuable insights into professional practice and career growth.
