Mangaluru: Father Muller College of Physiotherapy (FMCOP) marked a significant milestone in its academic calendar as it hosted the Student Council Investiture Ceremony alongside the unveiling of the second edition of its college magazine, Synergia 2025. The event symbolised both a celebration of achievements and a formal transition of leadership from the outgoing Student Council 2025 to the newly elected council for 2026.
The ceremony brought together institutional leaders, faculty members, students, and council representatives in an atmosphere of dignity and reflection. It reaffirmed the college’s commitment to nurturing responsible leadership within the healthcare profession.
Solemn beginning and dignitary presence
The programme commenced with a ceremonial procession of dignitaries and office bearers, setting a tone of purpose and tradition. The gathering was graced by Rev. Fr. Faustin Lucas Lobo, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions; Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Dhanesh Kumar K U, Principal of Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy; Rev. Fr. George Jeevan Sequeira, Administrator of Father Muller Medical College Hospital; Rev. Fr. William D’Souza, Assistant Administrator of Father Muller Medical College Hospital; and Prof. Cherishma D’Silva, Principal of FMCOP.

Members of the outgoing Student Council 2025 were also invited to the dais, acknowledging their year-long contribution to student life and institutional activities.
The event began with an invocation prayer led by students, seeking guidance and wisdom for the responsibilities ahead. Ms. Ishrat Fatima Abbasi, President of the outgoing Student Council 2025, delivered the welcome address, reflecting on the council’s journey, challenges faced, milestones achieved, and expressing gratitude to the management and faculty for their unwavering support.
Lamp lighting and symbolic transition
A traditional lamp-lighting ceremony followed, symbolising the transmission of knowledge, responsibility, and service — core values that define both the institution and the physiotherapy profession. The dignitaries, joined by representatives of the outgoing council including Vice President Mr. Aston, lit the ceremonial lamp, reinforcing the spirit of continuity and leadership.

The ceremony also recognised the dedicated efforts of the outgoing Student Council 2025. Certificates of appreciation were presented to council members in acknowledgement of their service, leadership, and contribution to academic, cultural, and extracurricular initiatives.
Staff advisors were honoured for their consistent mentorship and guidance. Those recognised included Ms. Nikitha Suresh Babu (Media), Mr. Jaya P (Sports), Ms. Cyanna D’Souza (Magazine), Ms. Sheetal Vivek Pai (Fine Arts), and Mr. Nishanthgowda (Technical). Their role in shaping student-led initiatives was acknowledged as instrumental to the council’s success.
Unveiling of Synergia 2025
One of the highlights of the evening was the unveiling of the second edition of Synergia 2025. The magazine’s title, meaning “working together”, reflects the collaborative essence of physiotherapy — a profession built on partnership between therapist and patient, science and compassion.
The publication showcases academic articles, student reflections, research insights, creative expressions, and departmental achievements. It serves as both a record of the college’s growth and a platform for student voices.

The magazine was formally unveiled by the dignitaries alongside Ms. Keara Theresa D’Souza, Magazine Head, and Ms. Cyanna D’Souza, Magazine Staff Advisor. Addressing the gathering, Ms. Keara highlighted the teamwork, perseverance, and editorial effort that went into producing the publication, describing it as a collective achievement of the student community.
Investiture of Student Council 2026
The formal handover of leadership marked the most anticipated segment of the ceremony. Prof. Cherishma D’Silva announced the newly elected Student Council 2026, after which the Director and Chief Guest presented badges to the incoming office bearers, symbolising the transfer of responsibility.

The new council members took their oath of office, pledging to uphold the values of integrity, service, accountability, and commitment to the student body. The Institutional Anthem was sung with pride, reinforcing a sense of belonging and unity within the college community.

Ms. Vamshika J R, President of the Student Council 2026, addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude for the trust placed in the new team and outlining her vision for the coming year. She emphasised collaborative leadership, student engagement, and the importance of balancing academic excellence with holistic development.
Messages of encouragement
Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Dhanesh Kumar K U shared insights on leadership in healthcare education, emphasising that effective leadership is rooted in humility, discipline, and service to others. He encouraged the newly elected council to lead with empathy and responsibility.

Rev. Fr. Faustin Lucas Lobo, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, addressed the audience, highlighting the crucial role student leaders play in shaping campus culture. He reminded students that leadership is not merely a designation but a lived responsibility that demands dedication and integrity.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Sherin Elsa Jacob, General Secretary of the Student Council 2026. The programme ended with the National Anthem, followed by refreshments and informal interactions among students and faculty.
The occasion stood as a testament to FMCOP’s enduring commitment to nurturing competent healthcare professionals and responsible leaders — reaffirming that leadership, much like physiotherapy itself, is rooted in care, collaboration, and service.
