Fifth Edition Of Indian Open Surfing Set To Enthrall Mangaluru

The Surfing Federation of India (SFI) has announced the much-anticipated fifth edition of the Indian Open Surfing (IOS) competition, slated to take place at the picturesque Sasihithlu Beach in Mangaluru from May 31 to June 2. Endorsed by the International Surfing Association, this premier event promises thrilling displays of skill and prowess in surfing and stand-up paddling.

Hosted by the renowned Mantra Surf Club, the three-day surfing extravaganza will witness participation from top-ranked surfers across India. Graced by the continuous support of the Karnataka government, this edition of IOS marks the fifth consecutive year of collaboration.

Competitors will vie for victory across four categories: Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Groms (U-16) Boys, and Groms (U-16) Girls. Serving as the second stop of the National Championship series for the 2024 calendar year, IOS follows the International Surfing Festival Kerala 2024, held earlier in Varkala.

The championship promises riveting rivalries between surfers from the east and west coasts, with crucial ranking points up for grabs. These points will ultimately determine the surfers’ standings at the culmination of the season.

Mullai Muhilan MP, deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, expressed support for the event, praising its contribution to showcasing the pristine coastal beauty of the state and bolstering tourism.

Arun Vasu, president of SFI, reiterated the organization’s commitment to elevating India’s status in the world of surfing. Following the successful kickoff of the National Series in Kerala, the focus now shifts to Mangaluru before venturing to the East Coast.

Excitement brews around standout surfers in the men’s category, including Ramesh Budihal, Harish M, Srikanth D, and Manikandan M, who showcased exceptional talent in the recent national championship in Kerala. Meanwhile, in the women’s category, competitors like Kamali Moorthy, Srishthi Selvam, and Sandhya Arun promise stiff competition for top honors. All eyes will also be on teenage sensation Kishore Kumar, who has garnered attention with his remarkable performances in recent times.
