Mangaluru: The Forest Mobile Squad of Mangaluru apprehended a truck involved in unauthorized timber transport at Ganjimath, located in Badagulipady village. The team has initiated legal proceedings against those involved in the case of illegal timber movement.

Sources revealed that the timber-laden vehicle was en route from Moodbidri to Mangaluru when it was intercepted by vigilant forest personnel during a routine check.

Upon inspection, officials found that the timber was being transported without the required permits. Both the vehicle and the timber, valued approximately at ₹2.5 lakh, were confiscated on the spot.

The driver, identified as Hamid Valpadi, has been formally charged under relevant forest and environmental protection laws. Authorities have also served him with a notice mandating his presence for further inquiry.

Forest officials have stressed that illegal timber trade continues to threaten the region’s ecological balance, and strict action will be taken against violators. They have urged transporters and traders to adhere to legal procedures while dealing with forest produce.

The seized timber has been safely moved to the forest department’s custody, and investigations are underway to trace the origin and intended buyers of the consignment.

This incident adds to the ongoing efforts of the forest department to curb unlawful timber smuggling and protect the region’s natural resources.
