October 2nd marks a significant day in history-Gandhi Jayanti, a celebration of Mahatma Gandhi’s life and legacy, which has profoundly impacted humanity. St Aloysius Pre-University College celebrated Gandhi Jayanti to commemorate the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Ms. Deyan Crasta welcomed the gathering, followed by a prayer song led by Sr. Valsa C. A. and the choir. Ms. Janet Pinto, Head of the Department of Kannada and Other Languages, highlighted the significant contributions of the Father of Our Nation, such as the doctrine of Ahimsa (nonviolence), nonviolent activism, the promotion of ‘Swadeshi’ goods, and Sarva Dharma Samabhava (the belief that all religions are equal).
Ms. Sabina Manjunatha, from Department of English shared her admiration for Gandhiji. She recollected instances from her personal and professional life which were impacted by the Mahatma. She stated that when we commemorate Gandhi Jayanti, we honor not only his life
but also his enduring legacy.
She felt that his impact on humanity is immeasurable, from leading India’s independence movement against British rule to promoting social justice and human rights globally.
Ms. Sabina stated that Gandhi’s message of nonviolent activism, demechanization, austerity, and the importance of always speaking the truth continues to empower people from all walks of life, reminding us that one person can make a difference.
She expressed hope that all staff and students will strive towards fulfilling Gandhi’s vision of an ideal India.
The staff and students then paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. Ms. Bhavya S., from the Department of History, proposed the vote of thanks.
