Beltangady: Thieves allegedly broke into a house at Alandila in Kuvettu village of Beltangady taluk and stole gold ornaments worth Rs 15.82 lakh and Rs 1.80 lakh in cash while the family was away attending a housewarming ceremony.
According to the complaint filed by Noufal B M, 34, the incident took place after he sent his wife, children and mother to a relative’s housewarming function on the afternoon of September 13. Noufal then locked the house and left for Beltangady to attend to his vegetable business.
Gold and cash found missing
The family returned home at around 8.30 pm on September 14 and noticed that a box containing gold ornaments, which had been kept inside a bedroom cupboard, was missing.
On checking their belongings, they found that 113 grams of gold ornaments valued at Rs 15.82 lakh had been stolen. The missing ornaments reportedly included two gold chains weighing 32 grams and 26 grams, a baby’s gold chain, anklets and a bracelet.
In addition, Rs 1.80 lakh in cash and three rings weighing seven grams belonging to Noufal’s mother were also reported missing.
Workers questioned in burglary case
The house had been visited by workers on September 14 for electrical wiring work. Noufal’s complaint stated that Farooq from Maddadka had brought Ashraf from Kudradka and Sulaiman from Shirlalu to carry out the work. Noufal’s younger brother, Mohammed Naushad, was present at the house while the work was being undertaken.
Noufal has expressed suspicion against the three workers in connection with the theft. However, their involvement has not been established.
A case has been registered at Beltangady Police Station, and police have begun an investigation to identify those responsible for the burglary and recover the stolen property.
