Mangaluru police have invoked the Goonda Act against Bharath Shetty (27), a resident of Ashraya Colony, Idya, Surathkal, citing his continued involvement in serious crimes. The preventive detention order, issued on Friday, falls under Section 3 of the Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, 1985.
City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal revealed that 13 major criminal cases were registered against Shetty at multiple police stations under the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate and Dakshina Kannada district. His record includes murder, four attempted murders, dacoity, unlawful assembly, assault, and crimes against women.
Despite previous legal actions, Shetty remained actively involved in criminal activities, causing grave threats to public order and safety. To curb his dangerous activities and restore law and order, authorities opted for preventive detention.
This action underscores the police’s commitment to cracking down on repeat offenders and ensuring public security in the region.
