Mangaluru: Newly appointed Karnataka Minister for Health and Family Welfare, U.T. Khader, visited the Bishop’s House in Rosario, Mangaluru, on Sunday to seek blessings from Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha as he begins his new tenure in the state cabinet.

The visit came shortly after Khader’s induction into the Karnataka Cabinet and his appointment to the Health and Family Welfare portfolio. His return to the ministry has been widely welcomed across the coastal region, where he has previously served in the same department.

Bishop extends warm welcome

Upon his arrival at the Bishop’s House, Khader was warmly received by the Bishop of Mangalore.

As a mark of respect and goodwill, Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha felicitated the minister with a traditional shawl and bouquet.

In return, Khader honoured the Bishop and expressed gratitude for the prayers, encouragement, and guidance he has received from the Church and its leadership throughout his public life.

The interaction reflected the cordial relationship shared between community leaders and public representatives in the region.

Special prayer offered for minister’s new responsibilities

Following the felicitation, the Bishop led a special prayer seeking God’s blessings upon the minister as he assumes responsibility for one of the state’s key portfolios.

The prayer invoked wisdom, strength, and guidance for Khader in discharging his duties as Health and Family Welfare Minister.

Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha also prayed for the minister’s efforts to improve healthcare accessibility, strengthen public health systems, and serve the people of Karnataka with compassion and dedication.

Clergy and community leaders attend gathering

Several members of the clergy and prominent community representatives were present during the occasion.

Among those in attendance were Rev. Fr. Rupesh Madtha, Public Relations Officer of the Diocese of Mangalore; Rev. Fr. Valerian D’Souza, Parish Priest of Rosario Cathedral; Rev. Fr. Ivan D’Souza; Rev. Fr. Valerian Fernandes; and Rev. Fr. Pradeep Rodrigues.

Also present were Sr. Maria Naveena AC, Provincial Superior of the Mangalore Province, Sisters of St. Ann’s Convent, and members of the local Catholic community.

Community leaders including Mr. Denis D’Silva, Mr. Alwyn D’Souza (Panir), Mr. Stany Bantwal, as well as office-bearers and members of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) of Rosario Cathedral Church, participated in the gathering.

Spirit of cooperation highlighted

The meeting underscored the longstanding relationship between U.T. Khader and various religious and community institutions in Dakshina Kannada.

Participants highlighted the importance of cooperation between public representatives, faith-based organisations, and community stakeholders in promoting social welfare and public well-being.

The visit concluded in a spirit of goodwill and mutual respect as the minister embarked on his new responsibilities in the Karnataka government.
