Mangaluru: In view of the heavy rainfall forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), the Dakshina Kannada district administration has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges across the district on Monday, August 3.
The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students amid predictions of intense rainfall and the possibility of weather-related disruptions.
Holiday for educational institutions
According to the district administration, the holiday applies to all government, aided and private schools, PU colleges, degree colleges and other educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada.
Authorities have advised students, parents and educational institutions to follow official weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain.
Public urged to remain cautious
The district administration has appealed to residents to stay alert, especially those living in low-lying and landslide-prone areas. People have also been advised to avoid venturing near rivers, streams, waterfalls and the seashore during adverse weather conditions.
Officials said disaster management teams are on alert to respond to any rain-related emergencies.
The administration will continue to monitor the weather situation closely and issue further advisories if required.
