Uxcel, Institute for Excellence, in collaboration with social service organisations and civic groups, will host a heartfelt event on Sunday, May 25, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon at the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, to recognise and honour 160 drainage and road workers of Mangalore for their tireless contributions to the city.
This annual initiative by Uxcel Charitable Trust is part of a long-standing tradition of expressing gratitude to the often-overlooked workforce that keeps our cities functioning. Over the years, Uxcel has honoured 512 sanitation staff, celebrated Covid-19 warriors from KMC Attavar, hosted a Christmas meal for 319 prisoners at the Mangalore jail, and recognised auto-rickshaw drivers for their everyday service.
Each worker will receive Rs. 1,000 in cash, a towel, and refreshments during the programme. Civic leaders and members of the public are expected to attend, offering their appreciation through words and presence. Mr. Girish, supervisor of the municipal drainage team, is facilitating the participation of the workers.
“This isn’t just a ceremony,” says Maria D’Costa, Director of Uxcel. “It is a gesture of human gratitude—a moment where society acknowledges the dignity of labour and the invisible backbone of our civic life.”

The programme is supported by Inner Wheel, Rotary Clubs, and the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, which graciously provides the venue year after year.
Members of the press are warmly invited to cover this impactful event.
