Mangaluru: The Department of Hospitality Science at Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce & Management (YIASCM) celebrated Independence Day with great fervour by organizing the event “HospiTalent – Flavour of Freedom.” The program commenced on August 14, 2024, at 11:15 a.m. in the Lecture Hall 16, A Block, YIASCM Balmatta. The department as a whole gave a vibrant salute to India for its 77 years of independence.
The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Dr. Balakrishna Kalluraya, Head of the Department of Chemistry, YIASCM Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) along with Mr. Mervin Jaison Vas, Head of the Department of Hospitality Science; Ms. Safeena Banu, Program Convenor; Mr. Teymour Sulthan, Department President; and Mr. Mohammed Ashique, Department UG Secretary were also present on the dais.
The celebration featured a variety of cultural performances by students from different batches of the Hospitality Science department. The performances included a thought-provoking mime act, patriotic songs, and dynamic dance routines, all aimed at reflecting the importance of independence and the rich cultural heritage of India. A special presentation on the significance of Independence Day was also delivered by the students, further highlighting the historical importance of the day.
Adding to the patriotic atmosphere, the venue was very eye catching with the tricolor. In line with the theme, the kitchen team prepared tricolor laddus, and the Food & Beverage team presented a tricolor mocktail, symbolizing the unity and diversity of the nation.
The event concluded with a strong sense of national pride and a renewed commitment to uphold the values of freedom and unity. The Department of Hospitality Science successfully showcased not only the talent of its students but also their deep respect and love for the country.
Ms. Hajar and Ms. Gina of I BSc Hospitality Management skillfully compèred the event, enthralling audience through a variety of cultural performances.
