In a crackdown on unauthorized sand transportation, police intercepted a lorry carrying illegally mined sand at Addoor late Thursday night. The vehicle has been confiscated, and a case has been lodged at Bajpe police station.
Upon spotting law enforcement officers, a group of individuals engaged in unlawful sand extraction abandoned their activity and fled the scene. However, authorities managed to seize the lorry along with 17 metric tonnes of illegally acquired sand.
Illegal sand mining has been a persistent issue, leading to severe environmental damage and disrupting river ecosystems. Law enforcement agencies have intensified vigilance to curb such activities, ensuring strict action against violators.
Authorities have urged citizens to report any suspicious activities related to illegal mining and transportation of sand. Further investigations are underway to track down those involved and prevent recurrence.
